Sword fighters on stage at the Japan Festival

An independent homeware, gift, and personal care store situated in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, hosted the Japan Festival 2023 at The Assembly Rooms across the 21st and 22nd October 2023 in support of Safeline.

Ikigai Living’s annual festival celebrated Japanese culture with an array of art and merchandise stalls, performances, and food. Hundreds of people queued outside and explored the merchandise, inspired by Manga, Pokemon and more traditional Japanese art, on offer. JPOP, samurais, and taiko drumming were just some of the highlights of the festival in Leamington Spa.

Four women stood behind a stall at the Japan Festival with a range of items on. All of them are wearing green tabbards on with Safeline's logo.

Volunteers represented Safeline at the festival on both days.

Festival goers were also able to experience Japanese culture first-hand. Workshops in everything from Japanese terratium and calligraphy to Furoshiki and Ikebana were delivered across the weekend.

As the chosen charity for the festival, our teams and volunteers had a wonderful time running an awareness stall that provided information and advice to people seeking support. The support that we provide helps survivors of sexual violence and those close to them to cope and recover. During the event, we were also thrilled to watch our raffle prize grow as more stall holders donated items!

One volunteer commented:

“It was fantastic to be a part of such a vibrant and energetic event. I can’t wait to go again.”

Stallholders donated items to Safeline for our Japan Festival raffle grand prize. The prize included plants, artwork, candles, and more.

Safeline received a donation of £3,234 from a combination of Ikigai’s ticket sales, our raffle ticket sales, and general donations at the event. As a result of this donation, 5 children will receive the art therapy they desperately need.

Support from local businesses has played an important role in maintaining our life-saving services. If you and your business would like to support Safeline, email fundraising@safeline.org.uk.
