Safeline receives £10,000 grant from Heart of England Community Foundation

Safeline has received a £10,000 grant from the Heart of England Community Foundation’s Women and Girls Fund, helping us provide vital support to women and girls affected by sexual abuse and rape.

Safeline is proud to announce that we have received a £10,000 grant from the Heart of England Community Foundation’s Women and Girls Fund, as part of a wider £100,000 investment in organisations supporting women and girls across the West Midlands and Warwickshire.

The Women and Girls Fund was created in response to a significant decline in funding available specifically for services supporting women and girls. Through a combination of community fundraising and matched funding from the Foundation, the fund reached its £100,000 target in just four months and has now been distributed to ten specialist organisations, including Safeline.

The announcement was made on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, marking the start of the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence and reinforcing the urgent need to tackle violence against women and girls.

Alongside Safeline, funding has been awarded to Anawim – Birmingham’s Centre for Women; Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid; Black Country Women’s Aid, Coventry Haven Women’s Aid; Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre; Foleshill Women’s Training Limited; RoSA; The Esther Project and WE:ARE Women’s Empowerment and Recovery Educators. Together, these organisations provide vital specialist services including advocacy, counselling, workshops, courses and crisis support to women and girls across the region.

At Safeline, 83% of our clients are female, and this grant will help us cover essential core costs, including staffing, so that we can continue to deliver free, independent and confidential support to women and girls affected by sexual abuse and rape. Like many specialist services, we are facing increasing demand at a time of ongoing funding uncertainty, making this support particularly vital.

Neil Henderson, Chief Executive of Safeline, said:

“Violence against women and girls is one of the biggest stains on society. It’s an area that is grossly underfunded, a sad reflection on government priorities. Support from the Heart of England Community Foundation is a powerful reminder that, even in a desolate funding landscape, there are people and organisations who still care.”

The Heart of England Community Foundation has also pledged its support for calls for the government to establish a national fund dedicated to women and girls, recognising that the challenges facing survivors and specialist services extend far beyond local boundaries.

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the Heart of England Community Foundation and everyone who donated to the Women and Girls Fund. This investment will help us continue our vital work and move closer to a future where women and girls can live free from sexual violence and abuse.
