On Thursday 1st May, Safeline had the privilege of attending the 2nd Annual Remembrance Day hosted by SOS Silence of Suicide at Warwick Castle. The event brought together individuals, families, and organisations affected by suicide. Offering a safe and reflective space for remembrance, connection, and healing.
The peaceful setting of the Peacock Gardens provided a powerful contrast to the emotional weight of the evening. As the sun set and candlelight illuminated the grounds, voices rose to share poems, music, memories, and stories of loss. It was a space held with immense care and compassion – not only for those we’ve lost, but also for those left behind.
There is power in remembrance
Safeline’s Emma MacLellan and Cora-Laine Moynihan attended the event on behalf of our charity, standing in solidarity with the survivors and advocates gathered. The evening reminded us that there is power in remembrance. There is also hope in being able to grieve together, without judgement. “Individually, we have all been touched by suicide – through the loss of friends or family, or through conversations we never had with those silently struggling,” said Emma. “The event gave everyone – the bereaved, the affected, and the organisations that support – the chance to pause, reflect, and be seen.”
The event was supported by performances from the Coventry Crystal Choir and the Rugby Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts. Their voices offered comfort where words sometimes could not.
Other charities present included Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS), PAPYRUS, Mind, Men Walking and Talking, and Warwickshire Search and Rescue. Breaking the silence around suicide is vital – and no one should walk that path alone.
At Safeline, we understand the deep impacts of suicide, trauma, and sexual abuse. We know that silence can isolate. That grief can be overwhelming. Community support can be life-saving. Events like this – though painful – remind us that remembering those we have lost is not only about sorrow. It’s about keeping love alive, about bearing witness to lives that mattered, and about ensuring that those who grieve are not left behind.
We commend SOS Silence of Suicide for their unwavering dedication to creating this safe space. As they approach their 10th anniversary this October, we look forward to continuing our shared mission of offering safe, compassionate spaces for healing.
