In 2024, Safeline surveyed 1,239 Year 9 students across Warwickshire schools to better understand the reality of sexual abuse and Harmful Sexual Behaviours (HSB) in educational settings. The findings show that sexual harm in schools remains a significant and urgent safeguarding issue.
The results revealed:
63% of girls, 19% of boys, and 70% of non-binary students said they or their friends had been affected by Harmful Sexual Behaviours in school.
26% of girls and 11% of boys reported being sexually assaulted in school.
These statistics highlight that sexual abuse in schools is not an isolated problem. It is widespread, and deeply harmful.
Safeline delivers specialist, trauma-informed prevention programmes in schools across Warwickshire. These programmes are designed to:
Educate students about healthy relationships, consent, and respect.
Equip young people with the knowledge and confidence to recognise and report HSB.
Support school staff to create safer environments for all students.
We also provide direct support for young people who have experienced sexual abuse and for those who may be at risk. This includes counselling, advocacy, and a confidential helpline.
Every student has the right to learn in a safe and respectful environment. Safeline is committed to working alongside schools, parents, and communities to reduce HSB, prevent abuse, and ensure survivors get the help they need.
