Why I keep running for Safeline – Matt Preece

Matt Preece ran the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 6th April 2025 and raised £610 to support survivors of sexual abuse. This year was his third running the marathon for Safeline! We are incredibly grateful to have the support of such a resilient person – but we are also curious why he keeps taking on the Brighton Marathon. Here, Matt reflects on his three years of fundraising.

Raising money for the last 3 years for Safeline has been an absolute blast! All of the training on each separate occasion, and the big days too have become some of my favourite memories of my life! Choosing Safeline to run for was an absolute no brainier since the get go. A charity so dedicated to providing support to every individual that’s ever experienced sexual abuse, and educating those about how to prevent and protect people from sexual abuse holds immense value to me.

The support I have received from Safeline has been incredible throughout the last 3 years and helped to further motivate me every day. Each of the 3 marathons holds different memories for me, different experiences training, and different race day challenges. However, the 2 factors that have always stayed the same have been the happiness I have felt throughout the Brighton course and the support Safeline has given me, and I could not be more thankful for them. I cannot wait to run more marathons with Safeline by my side for many years to come!
