the riders raised over £90,000 for multiple causes

This donation is part of BICA’s ongoing commitment to supporting meaningful causes through its annual extreme cycling challenges. Since its inception in 1999, BICA has raised over £1,000,000 for various charities and community initiatives, combining a passion for cycling with a dedication to social impact.

This year’s efforts culminated in a 600-mile cycling journey across all 32 counties of Ireland. The challenge commemorated BICA’s 25th anniversary. Showcasing camaraderie, endurance, and community engagement, the riders raised over £90,000 for multiple causes. These causes include Safeline, It Takes Balls to Talk, Beads of Courage, Inc., Father Hudson’s Caritas, and University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire – Lung Cancer Research.

On Saturday 23rd November 2024, BICA held a celebration event to recognise the incredible challenge BICA members took on and present the donations to its chosen charities. Safeline Trustees Margaret Mullins and Cora-Laine Moynihan attended the event in Solihull alongside Safeline Ambassador Rebecca Davidson.

we can continue to support some of the most vulnerable people

Although charities are struggling more and more to find funding, Safeline has experienced a rise in demand and costs due to the cost-of-living crisis and the recently announced budget. BICA’s support to Safeline will enable the charity to provide specialist counselling support to 27 children and young people that been sexually abused.

Neil Henderson, CEO of Safeline, acknowledged the significance of the donation:

“We are so grateful to BICA for choosing to support Safeline and donate this significant amount of money so we can continue to support some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. Sexual abuse remains a taboo subject for many people, so we applaud everyone associated with BICA, for recognising the impact this issue has on our communities and for having the courage to support us. Eternally grateful.”
