A former soldier has been sentenced to seven years in prison after raping a woman in Nuneaton, with the court recognising the seriousness of the offences and the bravery of the survivor in reporting what happened.
A former soldier from Hull has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted of raping a woman in Nuneaton. Daniel Black, 37, raped and sexually assaulted the victim in March 2023 after spending the evening with her and later going to her home. The victim reported the assault, and Black was arrested shortly afterwards.
Following a police investigation, Black — of Arkwright Park, Hull — was charged with rape and sexual assault by penetration. He denied the offences but was found guilty after further enquiries.
On Friday 12 December, Black appeared at Birmingham Crown Court, where he was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for rape and four years for sexual assault, to be served concurrently. He will remain on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely and has been given an indefinite restraining order preventing any contact with the victim.
Detective Constable Heather Keogh, the investigating officer, said the court’s decision reflected the seriousness of the offences and praised the victim’s courage throughout the investigation.
